Caring for your Unit
Be prepared for frost and ensure that your toilet holding tank, water heater and the associated water pipes are fully drained down.
Safeguard your water system and ensure it is drained down when not in use.
Give your caravan a good clean especially if it has been stored near or under trees. Take care if using a high pressure hose, this can damage joints and seams. A good quality, approved cleaning agent can be bought from your local caravan accessory shop.
A good quality waterproof and breathable caravan cover is a good investment if your van is kept out in the open. It will help protect your unit from the elements and keep it clean.
Leisure batteries seldom achieve full capacity using the type of chargers normally fitted in caravans, campervans and motorhomes. It is advisable to remove your battery, check the condition and recharge using a slow trickle charge for a longer period this can be better than delivering high amperage charge. Avoid placing a battery on a concrete floor whist charging, instead place it on a wooden surface.
Check the condition of the 12N and 12S plugs as damp can get inside the sockets during the winter causing the contacts inside the plugs to corrode over time, also check that the wiring inside the plug is in good order.
Check the tyre pressures on both the caravan and tow vehicle. Remember to check the spare if you have one. Refer to your manufacturers handbook to find out the correct tyre pressures.
Replace any tyre more than five years old, but never exceed seven years due to deterioration, regardless of the tread depth or amount of use.
